Here it is. After much thought, ponder and time, I have finally caved and here is the first installment of what I hope, will be weekly blog posts about my life in Spain. Every week (or twice a week if many very interesting things occur) I will blog about life in Spain. The challenges, obstacles and life adjustments I encounter will be mentioned. But so will the happy, glorious, beautiful times that come with living in a great place like Spain.
I should preface by saying that I should have probably posted a long time ago. Much has happened throughout these first 6 weeks of living in Spain. It has been an incredibly long adjustment process. There is a big difference in lifestyle and customs. From the incredible nightmare that is obtaining a bank account to the even worse nightmare of finding housing to having to deal with phone companies and their non-written rules. I have definitely had to spend a considerable amount of time trying to figure out how to work within the system. Yet here I am, still going.
Even with the lack of clarity in many bureaucratic processes, the long waiting periods, the different eating schedules, the many "como llego?" that helped me get from A->B, learning how to speak Catalan, life is good. I would lie to myself if I did not admit that things are hard here. But I would also be lying if I did not say that it has made me grow in so many different ways.
My dad has always told me that it is not about the number of times you fall, but the number of times you get back up. I could not agree with that phrase more. From walking around Barcelona on a sunny Saturday afternoon, finding the perfect little coffee place, to the adventures that I have been able to do thanks to Fulbright (like meeting the USA ambassador or the King of Spain, Felipe VI) it has been an incredible journey thus far.
Never before had I imagined that I would be writing this from my room in Barcelona.
Rather than try and write about everything that has happened the past month and a half, I figured I would just post some pictures, after all a picture is worth a thousand words right?
To a new beginning, por un nuevo comienzo, per a un nou començament.
